I have used the disposable "Side Light" pipe lighters, Imco refillable butane pipe lighter, matches, and Zippo pipe lighter. I've settled on the Zippo as my go-to lighter. I collect Zippo pipe lighters, most have a Sheriff's star logo of some type or another. I currently have nine displayed and on a daily basis use a polished brass Zippo pipe lighter engraved front and back that I bought for myself as a "gift to me" after a requested job transfer went through. I've heard really good things about the Corona Old Boy pipe lighters, but can't justify the cost to my budget. How about your pipe lighters?

I have a gold Dunhill burley style lighter. One of the $500.00 ones you see in the store. But wait, this gets good...

I bought the lighter off eBay, broken, for $30.00. I then sent it to Kentucky to a Dunhill repair shop where they replaced the entire interior of the lighter for about $90.00.

I ended up with pretty much a new gold Dunhill for $120.00! I was pumped. About a month later, I realized I just spent $120.00 on a lighter and cried for three days straight.

Anyone want to buy a Dunhill?

Why matches? Just curious. Some people do prefer them to the butane version. Does it effect the taste that you can notice?

I like the way the flame of the matches ignites the tobacco . The difference in flavor is not really noticeable between butane and a match ,but you can really taste it if you use a zippo fuel type lighter!!

There is just something about the ritual of filling and packing your pipe and then lighting your matches and burning the sulfur before lighting your pipe.It is just one more way to make the pipe smoking experience more relaxing ,and slow down the pace of every day life by stopping long enough to enjoy a bowl and maybe a drink of your choice along with it.

i agree i am a match user myself. matches and anything else around the garage and yard that i could use as a match. it seems to me that the lighters are just a little too perfect in their job, whereas with the match you have to work with or against the different changing factors around you. i dont know, personal choice dictates the answer to this one.

I alternate between a disposable soft flame butane lighter and matches. For my cigars, I use a Ronson JetLite torch.
